Advanced motion control and active vibration control systems that accommodate control-structure interaction are of particular interest to SDL. SDL has been awarded an Edison - Emerging Technology Award for our patented Spatio-Temporal Filter (STF) based vibration control technology. STF control enables robust, high performance, multi-input, multi-output vibration and motion control approaches to be utilized in real-world applications on complex systems such as machine tools and steel processing lines.

Specific applications include:

• Active vibration control of an array of mirrors on a precision deployable optical space telescope prototype
• Development of a turnkey system for a Fortune 100 industry client incorporating a very high performance motion control system that achieves 5 um position control accuracy while operating at 180g acceleration and 7 m/sec velocity
• Active vibration control of a galvanized steel strip in a hot dip galvanizing process
