| Coop Position: Junior Technical Associate - Electrical Engineering |
| Location: |
Cincinnati, Ohio |
| Education: |
Must be currently enrolled in as an Electrical Engineering undergraduate student. |
| Description: |
Have you ever wanted to solve real-world problems and impact your surroundings? At SDL, Coop students get a chance to do just that. SDL offers opportunities to make a difference in a wide range of fields, including medical, military and commercial. Coops in the past have worked on projects with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on a cure for diabetes via the use of medical image processing and pattern recognition. Other coops have worked on a projects for the military, including active-noise cancellation and ultra-sonic communication devices. In the commercial field, past projects include work on underwater communication devices for scuba divers, design of analog signal-conditioning boards for next generation flow-meters, software design for electro-magnetic devices, and work with steel producers to improve coating of steel via use of magnets and lasers.
The tasks performed by coop students vary and are based on the individual’s skills, interests, knowledge, and aptitude. SDL has a long history of working with coop students to help them achieve their professional goals. Typically coop students work closely with one of SDL’s researchers (many of whom have PhDs in an engineering discipline) to help implement the cutting edge technology. Coop students are constantly challenged to learn new technology. The general types of activities that coops will be involved in include the design and construction of electronic circuits, software and test fixtures. Experience with C/C++ Matlab and Simulink programming will be helpful. Additional activities include conducting testing and data analysis, interacting with vendors to select and purchase parts, interacting with customers and miscellaneous office duties. |
